About Letli Ceramics

Scarlet Binley letli ceramics aboutHey,

My names Scarlet and welcome to my small business Letli ceramics. I want to start by saying a big thank you for hopping on this page and having a read, it really does mean the world to me so grab a cuppa (in your Letli mug) and enjoy!

My love for arts and crafts started when I was a little girl, I was never really into Bratz and Barbies but I loved getting my hands dirty and getting stuck in with creating things. The first time I ever laid my hands on clay was when I was around 6 or 7 and I would help my Grandma in her little studio down in her garage.

From then on I went all through school not being very academic but thriving in art and textiles. When it was time to go to college I decided to try something new, so I went for graphic design. Unfortunately this is when my arts and crafts fire started to fizzle out. I really didn't enjoy graphic design and hated spending my days on the computer and not getting hands on creative like I was used too. After getting my 2 year diploma I decided to drop out and not complete the last year.

It was then that my parents really took me under their wing and let me go and work for the family business BellaBarista which was all things coffee! Me and my parents knew it wasn't something I wanted to do for life and just something to keep me going until I figured it out. I will always be so grateful to my family that I was able to do that but year by year I felt like I was starting to forget who I really was.

Five years had passed since I had been working in the family business  and one evening I sat down with my partner Kyle and I put on 'The Great Pottery Throw Down' (a classic British show).

I cant explain it but it was like that creative fire just burst into flames and from that night on I knew what I wanted to do.

I went out the next day to my local pottery supplies shop and got some clay and sucked up all the information they could give me like a sponge. I was still living at mum and dads so I set up a tiny table in my bedroom and sat on my floor and got practising! I absolutely loved every minute of it and I was truly hooked on pottery.

As a little girl I always knew I wanted to run my own business, I always told my mum that I would be my own boss and become a successful business woman one day. My mum always told me that as long as it makes me happy she knows I can do it. For as long as I can remember my whole family have called me by a nickname that my dad created called 'Letliburn' I have no idea what it means or why he called me it but my gosh it stuck! This is how I created Letli Ceramics.

Here I am now two years since that night watching The Great Pottery Throw Down and I finally bit the bullet and resigned from my 9-5 at Bella Barista to pursue my true passion.

Letli ceramics really is my whole heart and I hope to show that in every single piece I make. It is an honour that you guys want my pieces in your homes and your everyday lives, I don't think I will ever get used to that but I hope you love whatever you get from Letli Ceramics as much as I have loved making it for you.

So cheers to an amazing journey and I can't wait to take you all with me!

Love Scarlet 🤍
